Therefore here a short summary:
For me, as a german native-speaker, it was always kind of a mystery what K-9 means. We germans know the term from movies or series like the great "K-9" (imdb.org) with James Belushi (imdb.org) which is named "Mein Partner mit der kalten Schnauze" (roughly translated: My partner with the cold muzzle).
While hearing a song via webradio I noticed that K-9 is pronounced like canine which kind of solved the mystery ...
Not a big deal, but I like me when I'm smart :D
